Education City Stadium FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™

Education City Stadium is a 40,000 capacity stadium that will play host to matches through to the quarter finals of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™.

After the tournament the stadium’s capacity is planned to be reduced by 20,000 with the upper bowl being denoted to build stadia in developing countries.

To achieve this ambitious aim, and deliver not just a demountable but a truly reusable solution required a completely new approach to re-usable seating bowl design.

Working in partnership with NUSSLI, Alchemy led a specialist design & build team to undertake the design, engineering, procurement and construction of the demountable seating bowl against an aggressive schedule and with stringent dynamic performance and structural robustness requirements.

The team developed the overall architectural and structural design in Revit and made full use of Inventor and TEKLA throughout the detailing and fabrication phases.

The onsite installation was phased, with significant time pressure on the first phase that was carried out in coordination with the cable net and roof structural steelwork package. Ultimately the stadium was delivered in time to hold the 2020 FIFA Club World Cup.
